Most frequent questions and answers
  • All applicants must bring a copy of the “Request for Live Scan Service” form. These forms must be completed prior to your appointment.
  • Applicants also will need to provide identification (ex U.S. issued Driver’s license, Passport, U.S. Active Duty/Retiree/Reservist Military Identification Card).
  • Most all Live Scan results from the DOJ come back within 72 hours. However, due to various reasons, results may be delayed. If any significant delays occur, the DOJ will contact the requesting agency. All results are sent to the requesting agency listed on the Request for Live Scan Service form. Once the Live Scan process has been completed by Advanta Scan, please direct all questions to the agency handling your employment or licensing. 
  • If the requesting agency has not received the results, you will need to contact the “Applicant Information Services” at (916) 210-6276 / applicantinfoservices@doj.ca.gov. This department is the only one who can determine if your record was not fully processed

If the requesting agency doesn’t have the results yet and Digital Live Scan fingerprints were submitted, you may call to check on your submission. The phone number is (916) 210-6276. Also, you can check the DOJ submission status webpage below. (https://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov/)

  • You will need to following information:
    • Your date of birth
    • The 10-digit Automated Transaction Identifier number (ATI) that appears at the bottom of the Department of Justice form requesting Live Scan fingerprint background checks
    • The (ATI) number always appears in the following sequence. 1. Letter, 3 Numbers, 3 Letters, and 3 Numbers
  • Fingerprints can be rejected for a variety of reasons. The most common reasons are the applicant’s fingerprints are difficult to capture in the Live Scan process. This can be due to cuts, scars, calluses, or inability to adjust fingers. Please contact us to reschedule a resubmission appointment.  
  • Advanta Scan accepts payments in the form of Cash, Visa, MasterCard, Venmo, Discover, Apple Pay, Cashier Check, and Corporate/ Business Checks. Also, please note that if you provide a corporate or business check; the check must be issued from the agency that is listed on the Live Scan Form and must also have the agency that is requesting the Live Scan
  • Fingerprinting rolling fee is 30-50$. Fee is dependent on travel exceeding a # of miles
